Role of Diet in the Treatment of Fibroids
Foods to be avoided:
Certain foods can trigger fibroid growth and aggravate the associated symptoms. These are:
Refined foods: such as refined flour and sugar cause sugar imbalance and increase insulin production in the body, thus causing hormonal imbalances. These foods also cause weight gain and increased fat cells in the body.
Processed Foods, Full cream milk (whole milk) and Red Meat: Processed foods such as processed cheese and butter tend to cause increase in body weight and impair hormonal balance. These foods are all high in saturated fats and tend to increase the fat cells in the body. Animal foods also have substances that mimic oestrogen and trigger the body to make more oestrogen.
Alcohol and coffee: Liver plays a major role in hormonal balancing, it can not play its part to the fullest if it is busy in getting rid of caffeine and ethanol. Coffee increases the production of oestrogen thus causing the hormonal imbalance.
Eating a healthy diet and managing weight is an important for an overall good health. If you have fibroids please consult a gynaecologist, as she will be best able to determine the treatment. However, a balanced diet planned by an experienced dietician and exercise by an expert will help maintain the hormonal levels and alleviate related symptoms.
To summarise, for treatment of any disease, the approach has to be HOLISTIC, in order to achieve the best results.
